Ep 51 Jodie Billing
In this episode, we sit down with Jodie Billing, one of the trailblazers of women’s rugby league in Queensland. Jodie proudly wore the Maroons jersey in the first official Interstate match against NSW in 1997, represented Australia at four internationals, and was part of the 2000 Rugby League World Cup squad.
From growing up on a hobby farm to finding her way into the fledgling women’s rugby league competition, Jodie shares the grit, sacrifice and passion it took to play at the highest level. She reflects on long bus trips, paying her own way, and playing for the love of the game — contrasting those struggles with the incredible opportunities today’s women’s players now enjoy.
This is the story of a pioneer whose determination helped pave the way for future generations of Maroons and Jillaroos.
