Ep 34 Michael 'Mick' Hancock
Welcome to the FOGS Queenslander Podcast Episode 34!
In this episode, our host Mark Braybrook is joined by FOG #54 Michael Hancock, a dynamic winger whose speed, strength, and determination made him a key player in the Brisbane Broncos' golden era.
Born in Stanthorpe, Queensland, Michael was a foundation player for the Broncos, debuting in 1988 and going on to play 274 games for the club. He was a key figure in Brisbane’s first five Grand Final victories, winning premierships in 1992, 1993, 1997 (Super League), 1998, and 2000. At the time of his retirement from Australian rugby league, he held the Broncos’ club record for most career appearances.
On the representative stage, Michael played 14 times for Queensland in State of Origin and 13 Tests for Australia, proving himself as a fearless competitor in the toughest arenas. He later finished his career in England with the Salford City Reds, retiring in 2002.
In this episode, Michael shares stories from his premiership-winning seasons, reflects on his Broncos legacy, and talks about what it meant to wear the Maroons and Kangaroos jerseys.
